X10 is all about marketing, there is an old
say The quality and reliability of a
product is inversely proportional to the
advertise, CM15a is not even useful as a
door stop; I used to do volunteer work with
a class of gifted high school childrens,
these kids can write software to put X10
programmers to shame.
The only reason they force web install
only is to flood customers computers with
advertise, I found many tracking cookies
from X10.
My antispyware software is set up to treat
X10 as a spyware .
Carmine: Right On ! I'm not sure what
the best use of the CM15A is, except to
say "I been there, learned, got burned,
moved on". It sure was easy converting to
SmartHome. Thanks to X10 / AHP - I learned
more than I ever want to know about that
product, and lots about home automation.....

The answer is - Dive into X10 technology
but don't do it with ActiveHome Pro. Leave
the RF / AC line control to a really robust
product - Use SmartHome products. My
system is completely converted over to
SmartHome. Events, Timers, Macros are all
converted to SmartHome, took a day to do
and test & cleanup. It's nice having a
system that does not falter, having an RF
antena that works farther than 50 feet (I'm
able to get good signals to the USB
controller from over 150 feet). I have no
problems now in far away devices, every
module / switch / motion detector works
perfectly. And the software does not hang,
does not shut down whenever it feels like
it, it works....... What a wonderful
difference - erratic versus solid !

Want to work hard making X10 work in your
home - Buy ActiveHome Pro.

Want a smooth installation, no hastle, an
automated system that works - Buy SmartHome.

Bob,

I don't know if you have turned 18 yet but I
sure wish you would stop having your spoiled
brat tantrum. If you are over 18 you are
pathetic.

I'll stop with the commentary, I just hope
that some of those that read this stuff
understand what a pathetic product we chose
and have continued to try make work so X10
can continue to sell the crappy product.

As usual, the ignorant ignore what is right
in the front of their face.....

Bob, I have aided people numerous times if
you read these forums or some other
automation sites. Smarthome products have
their faults also. I agree their products
are more stylish, but I have had to return
more of their products than X10 products. I
consider X10 products to be so cheap they
are disposable if they fail. On the other
hand the very first Smarthome wall switch I
bought cost 5 times as much as an X10 switch
but was DOA. I had to get it replaced, and
I have had several other Smarthome products
fail also after using a while. That is more
upsetting since you pay a premium for their
products. I have only had a couple X10
products fail. X10 products are usually
reliable even though they are quite less
expensive than the competition. The AHP
software appears to be released too early
but even in the state it is it is just as
reliable as the Smarthome CU (which I have
also) but I like the CM15A features better.
The external antenna you tout is not part of
the Smarthome CUP. The Smarthome CUP has
time problems much worse than the CM15A, The
Smarthome CUP also doesn't work well with
dusk/dwan as nice as AHP. Smarthome does
not even have a forum on their website for
discussion. But I know for a fact that
Smarthome edits their customer comments that
are not positive product reviews. X10 may
have faults, but I'm not so sure the premium
paid for Smarthome products makes them a
better value.

DW: Not sure you have read much of what I
have had to say, my only beef with X10 is
there CM15A and AHP software and technical
servidce - they are not production ready,
yet they continue to sell them hoping the
users will try to make them work, if the
can't they throw them away and move onto a
better product. I agree with most
everything you said. I buy other X10 gear
because of the bundles, the products are
much cheapr than anything else on the
market and for the most part they work.

Forum censorship ? X10 has censored users
also, they claim they lost posted
messages. Here again, they hope the users
will police themselves on their forums,
what really happens is people get fed up
and leave the forums, we move on.....

Every Vendor / every Product has it's
glitches and problems, yes even
SmartHome. Knowing what I know today
though, I sure wish I had left X10 / AHP
months ago.

Nice talking with you without the name
calling....

Smarthome folks (x x10 AHP users)-

Be quiet and Read this:

How people are using ActiveHome Pro needs
to be shared. Ask questions, share stories,
and contribute personal experiences with
other ActiveHome Pro experts and users.

This is the text at the top of every page
in this forum. If you use AHP then I
believe we want to hear from you, if
not...unless you can answer specific
questions on this forum, go try to find a
real person to talk to, if you can find one
that wants to listen and tell them over and
over about how you dislike X10!

Feel free to come back in a year or so when
it really works. Some of us will just wait
here, PATIENTLY.

UR2: You'l be sitting in the dark more than
the light in that year. I agree re: the
forum use, though sometimes people have to
vent. I actualy like some of the X10
bashing, Mr. Taylor, bashing side is using
the forum correctly, he is providing good
info...... Nice to see we all have an open
enough mind to accept other's point of
views.

U2..I sorta agree with you...
I believe we all have things to contribute
but I also tire from the posts that seem to
advertise a compeditors product over and over
and over and over... It seems so simple to
me, X10 WILL refund if you are very unhappy
and then you are done with it.
I am pretty darn happy with my unit although
it is a diag unit. The first one crapped out
after about 2 hours and was replaced quickly.
I think X10 is pretty tolerant to allow
continued (over and over and over for months)
ads for a compeditors product... you can look
and see the "other guys" don't offer an open
forum... so I am happy and smiling..at least
for now.

I am a former CM15A and AHP user. I own
alot of other X10 stuff that I am happy
with, however, the CM15A and AHP software
has way to many problems. However, I tried
to return the CM15A and software. When I
called for a refund I was told that I would
have to rip out the switches that I had
installed and return everything in order to
get a refund. This to me is sleezy
marketing. They know there product has
issues and this is a way out for them. I
have gotten over the wasted $100 (also
bought smartmacros) and moved on. I still
own the CM15A and software and this
entitles me to express my opinions
reguarding these products and the business
practices of X10. This I feel is an
important aspect of this forum, to alert
others of the unitheical practices of X10.
If someone wants to Buy X10 products the
should be aware of the trap I got sucked
into, and I'm sure others have fallen prey
to this TRAP also. Oh yea and there
customer service and tech support SUCKS big
time.

Sounds like there are a few categories of
X10 AHP customers:

1. A few have working systems.
2. A lot have problems.
3. A lot are willing to live with junk
because they paid for it or they cannot
justify throwing it away and / or they
can't get a refund (who in their right mind
would try to get a refund if it means
yanking everything out, not me).
4. A few have done something about it,
purchased something else, given up on X10
altogether, etc. Without offending anyone
by mentioning another product's name -
there are solutions out there that work.

Here, here Tcassio - anyone that has
purchased Active Home Pro is entitled to
voice their opinion on this forum !

Geez, one fella was so excited he finaly
got things working that he could not help
himself from giving daily / hourly updates
on how well the transition was going, but
that offended some because he was
specificaly talking about another
product. Is it not good to hear about
someone's good fortune in getting this
stuff working. Maybe he hit the nail on
the head - buy controller and software from
someone else and only buy modules from X10.

Seems to me there is more to the "sleezy"
marketing than meets the eye. Got a
boatload of junky hardware, sell it and
keep the poor suckers on a string till you
unload it all, minimize service and
repairs to keep the cost down, who in their
right mind will rip it all out to try and
get a refund?

"anyone that has purchased Active Home Pro
is entitled to voice their opinion on this
forum!"

I agree with that to a degree but I do NOT
agree that that also entitles them to be
obnoxious inconsiderate people that drown
other users trying learn, share and grow
their X10 knowledge. It is new X10 users
that are hurt and turned off from these
forums by individuals having ongoing
tantrums.

New users should be warned about the junk
these guys are trying to unload on the
public. Wanna lear about the technology
and fixes ? Use another forum topic post.
If you guys could read you would notice the
title for this post "finaly time to dive
in". I think some of you guys have an RF
range problem between your ears.
