Ever edited an .ahx file?
« on: July 28, 2006, 01:12:42 PM »

Has anyone ever edited an .ahx file with a text editor? If so, why?

To fix something that they couldn't fix from AHP?
Just for fun / to see if it could be done?
Any profound discoveries?

Inquiring mind wants to know.  :)

You can, in both Notepad and WordPad, but in such a jumbled form that to edit it would be very diffiicult.  Apparently there's no formal structure that an editior can display in any order, so you don't know what is the begiining and what is the end.

I don't think, once editied, that AHP could even use it.

Has anyone ever edtied an .ahx file and could AHP use it afterwards?

The first trick to editing or viewing ANY text based data file in notepad or wordpad it to make sure wordwrap is turned off.

I would show you what that looks like but this blankety blank forum wraps text too!   >:(

Suffice it to say, I just opened My House.ahx in notepad (under Windows XP), found the text label for one of my living room lamps:

<mod id="2000001" type="LM15A" t="Bill's Lamp" code="L1" lifestyle="0" room="Living Room" comment="" origid="2000001" ts="127756563383281250" />

Changed it to:

<mod id="2000001" type="LM15A" t="Phil's Lamp" code="L1" lifestyle="0" room="Living Room" comment="" origid="2000001" ts="127756563383281250" />

Saved it.  Reloaded AHP and now the module name shows up as:  Phil's Lamp

Be careful, and ALWAYS save a backup copy of the file before editing in case things go wrong!

In the real world, the only constant is change.

Yes, I have directly edited the .ahx file. More specifically, I have edited the camera modules and lists related to cameras in the module. I noticed that that the .ahx file maintains a list of deleted modules even after teh user has deleted these from the GUI. I have gone in the file, taken off the deleted items, and I have changed the scan list which had gotten jumbled up. I have been having some problems with the advanced macro functiionality of running windows commands/programs and I need to spend a bit of time to see how the macros are stored in these files.
